In mid-February, the Chinese company ByteDance (TikTok) releases a new AI model in the field of video: Seedance 2.0
A new level of visual quality.
While the viral videos largely consist of parodies and political content, significant unrest is growing within the film industry:
The Motion Picture Association issues a statement:
"[..] Seedance 2.0 has engaged in unauthorized use of U.S. copyrighted works on a massive scale [..]"
The reason?
It seems evident that the AI model was trained on unlicensed data.
High-quality animations can also be created..
Alternative versions of well-known series and films are circulating.
Some SaaS providers are even promoting AI-generated actors — such as those from "The Office" (US).
A creative, albeit not unproblematic, use of the new tools draws inspiration from computer games and simulations:
The following post raises a central question — is this really solely about copyright?
The MPA and Disney just hit ByteDance over Seedance 2.0, claiming "massive copyright infringement."
They say it’s about protecting IP. But watch this video (made by a Chinese creator on Douyin), and you'll see the real reason Hollywood is panicking: Survival.
A CGI shot of this caliber used to require a massive VFX studio and a multi-million dollar budget. Now? The cost is practically pennies.
